Easy Bunkbed Bedskirt
We have a small house, and having hidden storage is a MUST with two kids. When I recently updated the girls’ bedroom, I made them a cute bedskirt for their bunkbed and now I can hide books, shoes, WHATEVER I WANT, under the bed! And you can too. Its very easy. Here’s how.
Step 1: You can either buy a bedskirt already made (this would be SO EASY) or sew one for this project. If buying, simply cut away the fabric that would usually sit under the mattress and you’re ready for step 3. If you would like to make one like I did, you’ll need to measure the length from the back of the bed frame to the floor, and hem your fabric to size. You can do this with a sewing machine or you could even use hem tape if you don’t like to sew. For my fabric I used a flat sheet from Amazon and it was affordable and such a cute print. There are a ton of other prints available too.
Step 2: Sew your lengths of fabric together. For this pleated look I used box pleats. If you want a cleaner look you can skip this step for a straight skirt. Fold and pin your box pleats into place. (See photo) A lot of people told me to pin up and down vs sideways for this step when I shared it on instagram, but this worked out fine for me. Just be sure to pull the pins out as you go so you don’t break your needle.
Step 3: You will need this kind of velcro to make this work. I used two boxes for this project. The sew on strip will be sewn onto your fabric. Sew it onto the front side/ pretty side as this will be adhered to the back side of your bed frame.
Step 4: Take the other strip of velcro meant for hard surfaces. Stick this to the back side of your bed frame for the entire length of the portion of the bed that will have the skirt.
Step 5: Stick the fabric you’ve sewn onto the velcro that is now on the bed. And you’re done! Super cute finishing touch that doubles as pretty hidden storage! And the good part about the velcro is you can still take it off to wash it if it ever gets dirty from little hands.
